It’s a…

Baby MySpace Comments

Today Noah and I went in for our 19-week ultrasound.  And, in-case you’ve missed the giant graphic above, we are having a boy!  Although we were hopeful for a girl, we are very excited to be welcoming Logan into our family!  Logan is developing perfectly and is measuring within a week of his assigned due date (a little ahead, but hey, who’s counting?). 😉  He is also quite the wiggle-worm (must take after me in that regard).  Several times the technician had to wait for him to stop squirming so she could take measurements.  But we learned about Logan’s excessive mobility at our 11 week appointment when the doctor could not find his heartbeat with the doppler.

What’s also exciting, is I started feeling Logan move around this week.  I don’t feel him all the time, usually when I’m relaxed.  But it’s a great feeling!  Noah’s a little jealous, he is looking forward to being able to place a hand on my abdomen and feel the baby kick.

The only “concern” the technician had is that the placenta is close to the cervix still, which puts me at risk for placenta previa.  Basically, the placenta is supposed to move upwards towards the fundus as the uterus grows, but so far it’s still lying low.  If it stays low near the cervix, it would mean I would need to have a cesarean section birth.  There is still time for the placenta to move upwards, so please pray that it does and I do not have this rare condition!  I haven’t had any complications, and like I said, Logan is developing right on schedule. Next week when I see my doctor I am sure we will discuss this more and I imagine I will have more ultrasounds throughout my pregnancy.  At least that means more pictures of our baby. 🙂

And, of course, I have uploaded lots of new pictures to the album for your viewing pleasure.  Also, the poll is still open for guessing Logan’s birthday.  Let me know if you want to pick a date.

Updates

Another big snow storm this weekend.  I wonder if this pattern will continue all season.  I do much prefer the cooler weather as I fit much more nicely in  sweaters than my summer shirts (I think I only have 3 that still fit).

On that note, I have added some belly shots since people seem to request them.  Friday we go in for our 19-week ultrasound, and unless we have a shy baby, we will find out if we’re going to have a Logan or a Carol. 🙂  It’s exciting to finally find out! *Fingers crossed*

16 week update

Today was my 16 week appointment and Noah managed to escape from work, getting to the office just before the doctor entered.  Today we got to hear the heartbeat with the doppler (150s bpm for those who are interested), one of the best sounds in the world.  🙂  Everything is progressing along just fine.  The nurse was a little concerned that I haven’t gained any weight yet, perhaps that’s the excuse I need to delve into the Halloween candy a little early.  😉  Later today I’ll make my ultrasound appointment for next month so we can find out the baby’s sex!   Still hoping for a girl!  The poll is still open — comment your guess if you want your prediction posted!

Autumn in Colorado is Overrated

Don’t get me wrong, Autumn is one of my favorite seasons.  I love the colors the leaves change here – palm fronds just turn brown and fall off.  Not very exciting.  In fact, I don’t even mind raking the 500 million leaves that litter my yard each year.  We have 2 large trashcans just for this one season – we have that many leaves.  But  in Colorado, autumn really doesn’t last more than a few weeks.  Case in point – snow in October.

Now snow in October is very normal for the front range but not to the extent of the past 48 hours.  A slow-moving low decided to creep across Colorado dumping feet of snow across the urban corridor.  Yes that’s right, I said feet!  The snow started to fall Tuesday evening and didn’t stop until today.  By the time it was all said and done we had 15″ of snow at our house!  It’s beautiful; looks like Christmas…if only I had lights in my trees.  Maybe tomorrow I’ll take pictures, but I doubt it.  😉

First Snow of the Season – 2009

Thursday was a cold, wet day here in Colorado.  The temps didn’t make it out of the 30s and we had a rain/freezing rain/snow mixture falling all day.  Toward the afternoon, the precipitation turned over to all snow, but it was very light and didn’t stick as the ground was still to warm.  Since it didn’t stick, it doesn’t count at the official first snow of the season.

Last night another cold front moved in to the region, after a day of highs in the 50s.  It started to snow maybe around 9pm last night after the temperature plummeted 10* in about 45 minutes.  Not only was it snowing, but it was sticking!  The first snow of the season is always very exciting!!  When we left home at 9:30 this morning we had 1.5″ of snow!  It’s continued to snow off and on all day, but I don’t think we’ve had much more accumulation.  Yet, it’s a very nice showing for the first snow!

I love this weather!

Paranoia

“A paranoid is someone who knows a little of what’s going on.”
William S. Burroughs (1914 – 1997)

All the talk about swine flu and how bad it is to contract if you’re pregnant is making me paranoid.  Noah’s stayed home from work yesterday and today due to a head cold.  I have quizzed him multiple times on his symptoms, cross-referenced them with the CDC website, and made him take his temperature repeatedly.  All signs point to the common cold.  As a precaution, he has taken up sleeping downstairs (this is also due to the fact he didn’t want to get woken up at 6am when I start to get ready for work).  Also finding out last night that a girl I went to school with died from H1N1 (at the age of 28!) did not help.

I read this article online earlier today, which helped to reduce my paranoia…some.  But I work at a germ-factory (aka school) and learned today that our staff and students are dropping like flies.  Two staff and one child of a staff-member in my building have/had H1N1.  At least one student in another building has it (one of the three in that class that were sent home yesterday with fevers) and another staff in yet another building also has the virus.  Several other students have been sent home with fevers, I have not heard if they are H1N1 related.

My doctor has recommended I get both the regular flu and H1N1 vaccine.  My plan is to get the regular flu shot this weekend and then, when my doctor’s office gets a supply of H1N1 shots in, I’ll get that one too (sometime this month, but might not be until my appointment on the 30th).  All the paranoia did encourage me to call my doctor’s office  today and listen to the recording about flu vaccines — they don’t have H1N1 yet, which is what I expected.  So I’ll continue to wait, pray for health, wash my hands, use lots of antibacterial gel and disinfect my office doorknobs daily (mental note: buy more wipes so I don’t poison myself with CaviCide)…and try not to feed into the paranoia.

Safety Graphic Contest

So I love this site about Safety Graphic Signs and recently the site host had a contest for people to submit a caption for a really bizarre sign.  MY CAPTION IS A FINALIST!!!  Please go vote for the one about God and Satan in a ping-pong match.  I REALLY WANT TO WIN!!!!

Baby update

Yesterday we had our 11 week check-up for the baby.  It was supposed to be a quick appointment, just an abdomen check and hear the heartbeat.  But the doctor couldn’t find the heartbeat with the doppler, which isn’t too uncommon before 12 weeks.  So we got to have another ultrasound.  Everything looks great and we got to see the baby squirm, twist and kick – it was all that movement that made it hard for the doctor to zero in on the heartbeat.  Because of all the squirming, Noah says the baby is taking after me (I have a reputation of being a wiggle worm).  I’ve added a couple new ultrasound pictures to the Bailey Baby album.  In one of the pictures you can clearly make out the baby’s nose.  So what do you think, does it look like mine or Noah’s?  Noah thinks it looks like mine.  😉

Also, the poll is gaining in popularity.  Here are the current standings:

Girl: 7
Boy: 3
Unspecified: 3
Most popular birth date: April 20th

Since I have the calendar secured, be sure to let me know if you want your prediction listed!

Castle Calendar

A while ago my sister bugged me to create a calendar on the site and I finally got around to it.  Yet it wasn’t Gretna that spurred me along this time, but a couple of my friends that have started picking dates for when they think the baby is due.  So if you go to the calendar page and scroll to April you can see the prediction poll.  If you would like yours listed, just leave a comment and I’ll put it up.

NOTE: If you win the only prize you will receive is a boost to your ego, but it’s still fun.  🙂
