Birthday Party!

Unfortunately Logan was not feeling up to par to enjoy his birthday party, but here are some pictures from the event!

The birthday boy in his Safari outfit (made by Gramma) – during a brief moment of happiness.
There’s a lion patch on the left breast, around it reads “Logan’s Safari Adventures”

About to taste the cake, make a face, poke it, and then dump it on the floor.
If you know Logan, you can tell he doesn’t look like his normal happy self.

Shortly after the trial with cake, Logan went to bed. Those shots really took away his spunk for a few days.  We’ll have to give him cake again another day.  If he was feeling normal, I’m sure he would have dug his hands right on in!

My sister flew out for the party weekend, only to end up with food poisoning (not from my cooking!), and missed the entire event.  🙁  At least she was feeling well on Logan’s actual birthday and was able to spend time with him after his party, when they were both feeling better.

Birthday Boy!

One year ago today I walked into the hospital, calmly, not in pain, to leave 4 days later with my precious baby boy!  Planned c-section deliveries really are the way to go! 😉

So many changes have occurred in the past year with Logan! From smiling, rolling over, babbling, crawling, etc.  It’s hard to picture just how small he was when I see him as big as he is today.  Did this boy really start his life wearing preemie clothes? Now look at the happy boy!

Here are his 12-month stats!

Weight: 23-pounds, 10-ounces (63%)
Height: 29.5-inches (41%)
Head: 18.70 (80%)

Here we have a little chunk and yet he’s only in the 63rd percentile – I thought for sure he would be higher – like 80th!  Are 1-year olds really bigger than 23-pounds?  Then again, I did expect Logan to be closer to 25-pounds by his first birthday.  Guess that army crawling is slimming down his spare tire. 😉

Logan did check out to be in perfect health-despite an annoying cough due increased mucus due to teething.  Speaking of teething – did I mention he cut his 3rd tooth on the 21st?  Number 4 won’t be far behind.  He did not, of course, like the five immunizations he received at the end of his appointment.  Poor kid.  They didn’t like him much either as they made him tired, fussy and gave him a slight fever.  Guess we’re mean parents for making him get shots on his birthday.  For the record, I didn’t know he was going to get so many!

Tomorrow we are having several friends over to celebrate this little boy’s birthday with a grand party!  I will be sure to post pictures from that shindig as well.  Hopefully Logan feels better and smashes his hands into cake!

On the Move!

We officially have a crawler! Logan officially started army crawling on March 5th!  Check out this kid’s skills!

AND for some added entertainment, here are some videos of Logan’s first time going down a slide (March 12)! He went down by himself a couple times too, but no video of that as Noah would lower him and I would catch him at the end.

One Month to Go!

Next month Logan will be 1-year old! Where has the time gone!  He’s developed so much of a personality and does not have any qualms about letting us know when he wants or doesn’t want something.

Here are Logan’s updated stats from what we measured:

Weight: 24-pounds, 3.2-ounces (fully-clothed)
Height: 28.75-inches
Head: 18.75-inches

Here’s a picture of the happy boy, which is how he looks most of the time.  This kid loves to smile and is so laid back!

Logan still only has the two bottom teeth.  We keep waiting for more to pop through, but they just want to take their sweet ole time.  He also isn’t crawling yet but is so very close!  Until then, rolling is his primary mode of self-transportation!

Happy Valentine’s Day

I’ve never been a big fan of a the holiday only because I don’t think I need a specific day to show my husband that I love him. But this year, I have two Valentine’s!  Hope you enjoyed your Valentine’s Day as much as we enjoyed ours!

What a Chunk!

These months just keep flying by!  Logan’s already 10-months old and I can’t believe that Noah and I are already planning his 1st birthday party!  It will be here before we know it! Here’s a picture of Mr. 10-Months that I took after he commandeered one of Lava’s toys.

Here are Logan’s updated stats from what we measured:

Weight: 23-pounds, 12.8-ounces (fully-clothed)
Height: 28.5-inches (either we measured wrong last month, this month or Logan hasn’t grown)
Head: 18.50-inches

He still only has two teeth – both on the bottom, not that the others moving around in his jaw don’t cause Logan discomfort from time to time.  He also has not quite figured out crawling yet, which considering his chunk, is not too surprising.  Logan seems perfectly content just rolling to get to whatever he’s after, or pivoting on his belly.  Since he’s much more mobile, we’ve starting baby-proofing the house.  Monday the baby gates we ordered for the stairs will arrive.  Don’t want Logan rolling down the stairs, and it won’t be long once he starts crawling to figure out how to go up them either.  I’ve already put plugs in outlets in the living room, where Logan does most of his rolling.  Next step is to buy the locks for cabinets in the kitchen and den (for the entertainment center).

I’m excited to watch Logan grow, each and every little bit, but also miss him as a sweet little baby.  Kids really do grow up too fast. *sigh*

Home Again, Home Again

Our original plan was to leave California on the 28th and return home on the 29th.  However, Mother Nature had some other plans – Utah and the mountains were going to get slammed with heavy snow.  We didn’t want to drive through the Rockies and risk driving on very icy roads or having the interstate shut down and be stuck/delayed in the middle of nowhere.  So, we decided to push back our departure to the 29th and return via the Southern route, which is longer, but not as mountainous.

We left around 8:00 the morning of the 29th, in the rain (it rained all but 3 days of our vacation, and they were not consecutive).  In talking with friends before our vacation, I was told to expect to add 1-2 hours onto our journey when traveling with kids.  This is true.  On the way out we would stop so I could nurse Logan.  This took forever as he was distracto-boy and only wanted to look around at everything else going on around him.  So, on the way back home, I decided it would be easier and more time-efficient to pump and give him a bottle.  This did save time, but when you take burping, diaper changes and walking the dog at pit stops, into account, we easily still would take an extra 30-60 minutes during meal time.  Plus, on the way home, our first meal stop was near Flagstaff, AZ where we were driving through snow, which of course made travel slower.  It wasn’t what we would consider bad road conditions, but we could tell a lot of the other travelers were not used to driving in snow.

The snow came and went off and on as we headed to our hotel in Gallup, NM.  Knowing we were going to be late, I called the hotel when we had barely crossed from CA into AZ, and alerted them that we would be a late arrival.  Always a good thing to help ensure your room is still there when you arrive!  When we were about 100 miles away from Gallup, the hotel called me to check if we were still planning on staying there tonight.  By this point it was about 10pm.  I told the woman that yes we were and that we were about 100 miles away.  Noah and I thought it was strange that they called to double check even though I had called earlier, but we just chalked it up to separate employees and a lack of internal communication.

By the time we finally made it to the hotel we were all car weary.  The snow was pretty heavy in Gallup and the city streets were very slick.  So much so, that Noah was unable to turn into the hotel driveway the first pass-by and had to make a u-turn in a parking lot up the street.  Thank goodness that around 11pm there was not a lot of traffic on that road, because as Noah headed back to the hotel the car slid on some ice and we started to spin out.  Scary, but Noah is an excellent driver and had us headed straight and safely into the hotel parking lot in no time.  🙂  Inside the hotel, when I announced my name to the receptionist for check-in she responded with, “Finally!”  Not in an exasperated way, but a hurrah! You made it with all the snow!  During that process another woman came in and asked if they had any rooms and the receptionist responded that they were booked full due to the snow.  Ah! So now the phone call made sense!  Thankfully our room was still held for us (and if it wasn’t that hotel would have had to face my wrath, which is not pretty).  After 14-hours of traveling, we were so happy to make it up to our room and beyond thrilled at just how awesome our suite was!  Too bad Logan didn’t want to let us sleep in it.

The morning of the 30th, we set out early again, as we had another long drive ahead and a winter storm to contend with as we approached home.  More snow off and on in New Mexico, but nothing we couldn’t handle.  I actually enjoyed going through New Mexico a LOT more than Utah.  There are so many types of geography!  Mesas, rocky mountains, grasslands, etc!  And with the snow, it was quite lovely!  It lasted forever, like Utah does, but at least the scenery was nicer!

The worst part of the drive home happened when we were in Fountain, CO.  The roads were very icy, so Noah put the chains on the car.  The problem with that is with chains our top speed was 30mph.  We were so close to home and yet so far when we all wanted nothing more than to be out of the car and off of the icy roads.  Plus, I had chosen to sit cramped in the backseat to help entertain Logan.  Cramped might actually be an understatement as I either had to sit on my legs or squeeze them behind Logan’s car seat and angled into the front.  Finally, a little after 11pm and after 15 hours of traveling we made it home!

Now that everything from the trip is cleaned up and put away, time to put my feet up, watch a movie and ring in the new year in piece and quiet.  Nah, who am I kidding, I will lay on the floor playing with Logan, and pause the movie at least twice to tend to the baby’s needs, or laundry, and quite possibly fall asleep before midnight.  🙂

Happy New Year!

Professional Photo Shoot!

Our dear friend Season took our engagment photos in 2002.  In 2004 she took our wedding photos.  Now, in 2010, she took pictures of our first child!  Here is a sneak peak of what’s to come:

That photo is actually a screen shot from a video that was taken, but a nice little preview nonetheless.  If you’re in CA and ever in the need of a great photographer, be sure to contact Season!

Merry Christmas!

Christmas is always a very special day where we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior.  This time last year Noah and I were on several planes making our way to Ireland.  This year, were are enjoying Christmas festivities with our families and celebrating our son’s 9-month birthday!

Here are his updated stats from what we measured:

Weight: 22-pounds, 6.4-ounces (fully-clothed)
Height: 28.5-inches
Head: 18.25-inches

On the 21st, Logan’s first tooth broke through!  Despite my consistent checking, Auntie Gretna was the one to feel the *CHOMP* on her finger first.  It won’t be long before his second tooth pops up!  I would attempt to post a picture but Logan won’t hear of it.  Despite his lack of showing off his new tooth, teething as not created any additional drama for the boy.  Hopefully all of his teeth will be this low-key!

Gramma and Grampap have been thrilled to spend so much time with Logan and are enjoying spoiling him – like with a new jumper!   This is by far his favorite gift!  If it were up to him, he would spend all of his time jumping away.  If you’re holding him, he’ll bounce against you to let you know he wants to jump around!

This kid totally made out for Christmas too, commandeering an entire side of the tree just for his gifts (not including the stocking)!  He was given many new toys, outfits, and books!  There’s no denying how much this little boy is loved! Click here for pictures from the first part of our trip, and here for more Christmas photos!

As Christmas comes to a close, I hope you and yours have had a day filled with family, friends, fun, and food!  And don’t forget that Jesus is the true reason for the holiday!

Merry Christmas from the Baileys!

Snow? What snow?

I keep hearing reports of places around the country getting snow – some of which usually don’t get a lot.  In fact, this doesn’t even apply to just the US, as my friend in Dublin recently received several inches of the wet white stuff.  I also, fairly regularly, hear about snow falling in the high country, snarling traffic, increasing avalanche danger, etc.  However, when I look out my window I see dry grass and leaf-less trees.  It looks like it should be winter, but feels more like autumn (yes, yes, I do know that according to the calendar it technically is still autumn.  But in Colorado, winter typically lasts from October-April).

So far this year we have had a measly 2.0-inches of snow fall at our house…in mostly 1/2-inch increments. This time last year we already had 31.5-inches!  That is a BIG difference (stinkin’ La Nina)!  I had a fun idea for a family photo opp that would involve us all wearing Santa hats and posing in the snow…only in order to actually find snow, we would have to drive 2+ hours (depending on ski traffic).  No thank you!

Granted, since I commute appx. 90 miles (round-trip) 5-days a week, I don’t mind having to deal with snow-packed and icy roads.  However, it would be nice for it to look and feel a little bit more like Christmas.

I truly think Colorado is having a California identity crisis this year given the many destructive brush fires and the lack of snow.  And when it does decide to snow at my house this year, who wants to place bets that it will be when I’m in California?

Alas, no snow for the family picture, but Logan did get to meet Santa this past weekend, so that mostly (kinda, sorta) makes-up for it (at least temporarily).
