Westward Journeys

I’ve added a new link to the blogroll.  It’s a little fictional blog journal I’ve created for fun.  It’s listed as Westward Journeys, or you can click here to go read it.  Enjoy and be prepared to get drawn into the life of Noelle Aylesworth.

I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas…

Yesterday we got hit with our second snowy day!  Yay!  It’s about time!  I love waking up to see snow on the ground, and it continued to snow all day.  When it was all said and down, the official count in Boulder was 7.2″ (there was 5″ when I left work at 5pm and it was still heavily snowing).  The count at our house in eastern Boulder County was 4″.  The cities/state did a good job of keeping the roads cleared and I was shocked to come home and find that our street had been plowed.  Our street never gets plowed!

Next chance of snow is Sunday night/Monday.  Make sure you check the Snow Totals page for the current count.

I finished my project before Noah completed his.  Last night I finished the final wall in the bedroom.  I must say that the room is much more inviting now that it doesn’t look dingy and that the furniture is back in place (and not covered in plastic!).  Another plus is that all of the doors are now white — and the same shade of white!  Noah still has to do one more coat on the closet and bathroom doors…but that was his contribution to the project.  My job was to paint the walls, baseboards and trim.  So once the doors are finalized all we need to do is purchase and install the crown molding (again, Noah’s contribution to the project).

All that completed before the basement is done. 🙂

My next project is Christmas cards, which I started last night. Once the basement is done, Noah’s next task is to finish the bed.  Once the bed is in the room, I’ll take pictures.

Gobble Gobble

Why is it that vacations always go by too fast?  I’ve been off work since Wednesday and am now down to one day off left (that being tomorrow).  Of my time off I have only seen Noah on Thanksgiving.  The rest of the time he has been at work or working on the basement.  I’m ready for this project to be done.  On the plus side, I hope to have the 3rd wall in the bedroom done or 95% done tonight.  I just have touch-ups left to do and the baseboard.  I’m actually taking a break from it now…I’m losing too many brain cells from the fumes!

This year for Thanksgiving we spent the day with friends.  Once more I am thankful Ben Franklin was out voted.  The food was delish!  Yesterday I braved the crowds…or lack there of to hit a couple of stores.  The perks of small town shopping is no lines!  Either that or I have an ability to pick the best times to go shopping.  🙂  What topped yesterday off was that last night it snowed!  A real snow this time and I had no idea it was coming!  What started out as rain turned over to a frozen mix and then to all snow.  By morning we had 2″ of snow on the ground.  Not a lot, but enough to blanket everything and stick to tree branches.  I took some pictures, but have not yet uploaded them.  Now, it really feels more like Christmas with snow on the ground.  I’m ready for more!

Finally!

It snowed!  I got up this morning to a dusting of snow.  Yea!  Although at our house we had less than a half inch, my office in Boulder had about that much, it goes down on record as the first snowfall of the season.

Of course, the mountains, SW Denver suburbs and the eastern plains got more than we did.  In fact, the snow we did have has already melted and you can’t tell it snowed at all anymore. 🙁

I’m ready for more.  Maybe a Thanksgiving blizzard???

The 11th Day of the 11th Month

Veteran’s Day is not just a day you get off work, or out of school (although, neither of those applies to me).  It’s not a day to stand out on street corners waving banners and signs upset about the war in Iraq and screaming as loud as possible that the troops need to be brought home.

No, Veteran’s Day is when we all stand proud with the soldiers around us.  The soldiers that have served and maybe even have passed (either as a result of war or natural causes).  Today, please thank those you know in the military for all of their hard work and sacrifice, regardless of your feelings on the war in Iraq.  The United States would not exist if it weren’t for men and women willing give their all for their country.

I have many friends that are currently serving or have served in the armed forces including family members (my dad, my uncle (late), my grandpa (late)), and I could not be more proud of any of them.

Here’s a great article everyone should read.  It’s about one of the last surviving WWI soldiers.  He’s 112 years old and even that does not stop him from paying his respects to the graves of his fallen commrades.

She is too fond of books, and it has turned her brain.

Remember back when when I created a page of books I was currently reading?  Remember then how I deleted it and you were at a loss for good literature?  Well, good news!  It’s back!  Only this time, I have provided a link to my LivingSocial page (also available on my Facebook profile).  Here you can see the books I am currently reading (updated as soon as I finish/start a book), books I have read, books I want to read as well as reviews I have posted.  So, if you are in the market for a good piece of fiction (mostly, some non-fiction may be found within), than be sure to check out this page!

generation as presents to the posterity of those who are yet unborn.

Fall-time Projects

Since Noah is working with his brother finishing a friend’s basement, I have been sitting at home many nights a week bored.  I needed a project.  Now that the bed is nearing completion, I decided I wanted to paint the bedroom before we moved in the new piece of furniture.  So today we purchased the paint, and this evening I spent some time taping off doorways, the window and some baseboards.  I need to take down the window coverings still and then enlist Noah’s help in moving some more furniture away from the wall (mainly my bookcase, which is large and full…and I really don’t want to empty the shelves).

Tomorrow, more taping of baseboards and putting down plastic.  Maybe Tuesday I can crack into the paint.

Halloween

Halloween came twice this year, as it normally does for us.  Last Saturday we went to a Halloween party where Noah was dressed as a very convincing Urkel-esq nerd, and I wore cow-polk attire.  Then on the actual day of Halloween my work continued it’s tradition of dressing up.  This time I wore my full motorcycle riding outfit, impressed many a co-worker (thanks Sandy).  There were also 3 Racing Sausages, Clark Kent on the verge of becoming Superman, not one but two Sarah Palin’s and a Catholic school girl. The rest of my office is boring and decided not to dress up. There was supposed to be a contest, but it never happened.

As far as Trick-or-Treaters go, this year we had 16.  Still not many, but a steady increase from our tally last year.
2008 – 16
2007 – 13
2006 – 10
Notice a pattern???  So, in about 10 years we’ll have a decent amount of kids come by our house.  🙂
