Softball Scores

Since we will be spending many of our summer evenings in the dirt, I have created a page to post all of our game scores.  You can check it out here.

Back into the Swing of Things

Last night was game 1 of 36 softball games (assuming we play every game on all three teams). This morning I am tired and sore…it’s going to take a game or two for my muscles to get used to being put into positions they do not experience in a normal day.

Last night’s game was the team our Sunday School class formed (of which the church would not help fund). Although we played very well, we had one inning that did us in when the opposing team earned 9 runs. We didn’t have any errors, the other team just liked to hit the ball over the heads of our outfielders. Final score, CDG Custom Homes 12, Boulder Path (us) 7. Not a slaughter and a good first game.

Tonight is USA Rugby’s first game (yes, ruggers play softball too…hopefully well). Noah and I will be at that game (unless of course the clear liquid falling from the sky causes a cancellation). Tomorrow night is Floorcrafters first game of the season but we were informed yesterday that we do not need to play this week. Next week however, I think we do.

Also, on an unrelated note. I think the fatigue is somewhat exacerbated by the fact we were awakened at 5am by thunder. Yup, spring is officially here folks.

Iungo Iunxi Iunctum

Didn’t know I know Latin did you? Well, I don’t but Google definitely makes it look like I do! Iungo iunxi iunctum literally translates as “to join”. Today Noah and I officially became members of Calvary Bible Evangelical Free Church of Boulder, aka Calvary Bible. We attended the 2 1/2 hour membership class this afternoon. After the class everyone had to sit down for a brief interview with either an elder (there were 5 there) or the pastor. We sat down with the pastor and after asking us about our salvation he signed off on our membership covenants. Just like that, we’re in. Gone are our Ventura Baptist Church memberships and welcome are memberships to Calvary Bible Church! It’s nice to finally be official after attending the church for 20 months. 😀

I take it back

Looks like USA Rugby will have a softball team this summer…assuming we get everything turned it to the city tomorrow.

Hey batter batter batter…

Summer is just around the corner (despite the fact it might snow tomorrow), baseball season has already kicked off (despite the fact my Boys in Blue are currently out of first place) and that means it’s time for Slow-Pitch Softball! Last year Noah and I played on a team with a bunch of friends from church. This year I was recruited into managing said team…hopefully this year our church will foot the bill! Noah’s work decided they too are forming a team (in Longmont, our church team plays in Boulder), Noah and I were recruited onto that team. Now, one of my coworkers is going to shoot an email out to the staff about possibly forming a team, also in Boulder and in the same league as the church team. Not sure what I would do if my church & my office faced off. I think my allegiance would have to be with the church… However, the office team probably won’t pan out since all but about three staff members travel and rosters are due tomorrow! In any case, looks like we’ll be spending our summer evenings in the dirt, swatting mosquitoes, and hopefully not getting struck by lightning.

Colored Eggs are not Just for Kids

Yesterday we hosted Easter dinner for our group of friends. There were 10 adults and 3 ankle biters…although two of the babies slept most of the time. With the scrumptious food coming in a close second, I think the egg hunt took the (bunny topped cup)cake. Shortly after we finished eating, one of our friends noticed our next door neighbor “hiding” eggs in his yard for his three boys. Noah and I then announced that we too had planned an egg hunt in our backyard.  Thankfully the snow (we received about 1″ the night before) melted before I hid the eggs.  An egg hunt would not be as much fun if all one had to do was follow footprints to the hiding spots.  Worst case I would have had to run around the yard in circles to cover my tracks…but then again, Lava would sniff each egg after I hid it, so then I would have had to come up with a way to cover her tracks as well.  Regardless, the snow melted – back to the story.

I think it was Melina that responded with an enthusiastic, “Are you serious?!?!”. I believe I also overheard someone saying they have never participated in an egg hunt…but it might have been in reference to one of the babies. I don’t know. Stanley noticed an egg on part of the fence and yelled, “I see one! It’s mine, no one else can claim it!”  I think my neighbor got a kick out of watching a bunch of 20 and 30 year olds run around trying to collect the most eggs. His eldest son, Luke, was also trying to be helpful by pointing out a couple eggs that we hid by the fence that divided our two yards. Clifton came out victorious with nine eggs, including the last illusive one that sent everyone scrambling (ha!) again. It was determined that whoever hosts next year must also have an egg hunt. The eggs from this year were to be passed down the line, but Lava decided she needed an egg hunt while we were at work today and decimated most of them. Oh well, I’m sure Wal-Mart will carry ample supply next year.

We did take pictures and I will get them posted whenever I download them off the camera…probably this weekend.

Happy Easter!

From the book of Matthew:

28:59Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, 60and placed it in his own new tomb that he had cut out of the rock. He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb and went away.

62The next day, the one after Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate. 63″Sir,” they said, “we remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’ 64So give the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal the body and tell the people that he has been raised from the dead. This last deception will be worse than the first.”

65″Take a guard,” Pilate answered. “Go, make the tomb as secure as you know how.” 66So they went and made the tomb secure by putting a seal on the stone and posting the guard.

29:5The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. 7Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”

From John:

20:1Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. 2So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!”

16Jesus said to her, “Mary.”
She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means Teacher).

17Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet returned to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’ ”

22And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”

Resolution Complete

This year my New Year’s resolution was to get contact lenses.  A week ago I went in for my eye exam; today I had my fitting “class”.  They started me out with trial pairs to see if I like contacts since I have never had them before.  Next week I go in to see if my prescription needs tweaked or to just get my final lenses.  I have about an hour more to wear them today.  I like them so far except I think my left eye prescription might be a little weak.  We’ll see how it goes after a week.  But, at least I actually fulfilled a New Year’s resolution!  Can you say that?

3 Down, 3 to Go

Last week a restoration company that Floorcrafters gives out referrals for gave Noah’s office tickets to two Avalanche (NHL) games.  Noah scored the tickets for last night’s game.  So off we went to Denver in the snow, arriving just as the first period ended.  The seats were awesome, center ice and 20 rows up!  Only crazy people buy those seats since their face value was $108 a piece!  Neither of us had been to a hockey game before but soon learned it’s a fun game to watch, even if you have absolutely no clue why a ref blew a whistle and there’s a mini “rest” period where players are shuffled on and off the ice.  Last night the Avs played the Phoenix Coyotes, who’s coach is none other than the great Wayne Gretzky!  We were able to see him from our seats as he stood in the box (is it a box?  I have no idea…whatever hockey’s version of a dugout is called).  Anyway, the game went into OT with a disappointing loss for the Avs as the Coyotes scored within the first 3:30 minutes of OT.  I was really hoping for a Double Overtime.  Ha!

So, now that last night’s game has been summed up, I suppose I should decipher this blog’s title.  We have now been to games for 3 of Denver’s pro teams.  In July we went to a Rockies game for the soul reason that my Dodgers were here.  August we went to a Broncos pre-season game (more free tickets from Noah’s work), and last night was of course, the Avs.  The only teams left are the Nuggets (basketball), Mammoth (lacrosse) and the Rapids (soccer).
