Back into the Swing of Things

Last night was game 1 of 36 softball games (assuming we play every game on all three teams). This morning I am tired and sore…it’s going to take a game or two for my muscles to get used to being put into positions they do not experience in a normal day.

Last night’s game was the team our Sunday School class formed (of which the church would not help fund). Although we played very well, we had one inning that did us in when the opposing team earned 9 runs. We didn’t have any errors, the other team just liked to hit the ball over the heads of our outfielders. Final score, CDG Custom Homes 12, Boulder Path (us) 7. Not a slaughter and a good first game.

Tonight is USA Rugby’s first game (yes, ruggers play softball too…hopefully well). Noah and I will be at that game (unless of course the clear liquid falling from the sky causes a cancellation). Tomorrow night is Floorcrafters first game of the season but we were informed yesterday that we do not need to play this week. Next week however, I think we do.

Also, on an unrelated note. I think the fatigue is somewhat exacerbated by the fact we were awakened at 5am by thunder. Yup, spring is officially here folks.

This is how I know it’s going to snow…

I leave my ice scraper/snow brush in the car.  Normally if the forecast calls for snow I’ll bring the scraper in the office with me.  When I do so, nothing accumulates.  Today the forecast called for snow late (maybe since my office is next to the foothills “late” really means 2:00pm?) so I left the scraper in the car.  Of course, by doing so Murphy’s Law prevailed and now there is this white stuff (snow, ice, who knows what else) on my car that I am going to have to remove before I can go home.  Oh well, at least I had the foresight to bring gloves with me to work today.

What’s that you say?

The high today is supposed to be 55*? Hmm, that’s interesting since it’s been raining or rain/snowing or snowing off and on all day. The snow is not sticking, but it’s definitely not 55* outside either.  One’s gotta love the fact that weathermen are never right.  🙂

In other news – the tree in our front yard is not dead! Yea for restorative hibernation!

Holiday Snow

Christmas 2007 – 3″ of snow
Valentine’s Day 2008 – 2″ of snow
Saint Patrick’s Day 2008…

Five years ago today I am told there was a blizzard along the Colorado Front Range. Of course, I cannot verify this fact as I lived in Sunny California at the time and was busy attending UCSB. Interestingly enough, March 17th, 2003 was also a Monday, but I digress. This blizzard dumped some 3-feet (or nearly…again, cannot verify) on the Denver Metro Area.

Now, back to present day March 17th, 2008 we have had a Winter Storm Warning and a Heavy Snow Warning, both of which have been cancelled early with all the hype of our 6-10″ falling off the trees like the melting snow. I think we have received about 3″ so far. Props to Fox News for calling the 2-3″ accurately while everyone else kept upping the ante. Due to all the hype I decided that I did not want to drive in 6″+ of snow or on ice, so I dragged myself out of bed at dark:thirty to ride into town with Noah. Oh well, at least I got some quality reading in during the hour I sat in my cube prior to my workday commencing.

And for all those who were enjoying the spring like weather…HA!

More Reasons How I Know Spring is Around the Corner…

  1. The geese are gone.
  2. My crocuses are blooming.
  3. There were birds chirping outside my window yesterday morning.
  4. My neighbor across the street mowed his lawn today…ours is turning green
  5. We haven’t had snow since the 5th of the month.

One reason why I know Spring is NOT right around the corner:

  1. There is currently a Winter Storm Warning in effect for our area to receive 4+ inches of snow tonight through tomorrow. So much for my crocuses.

Winter Whiplash Weekend

This weekend we experienced weather extremes. Saturday was a taste of Spring early with sunny skies and temperatures in the 70s! I spent some time in the sun completing some yard work out front (that I never finished in the fall) while Noah stayed inside installing our new kitchen sink faucet. It was time to replace the old faucet (which came with the house) with something they only gave water out of the spout instead of the handle. Noah had grown tired of repeated fixes and it’s nice to continue to our slow kitchen remodel.

Now, back to the weather report…so, yesterday I saw a high of 73* with lots of sunshine. Today, it snowed and the high was in the low 30s. The forecast called for 3″-6″, but we only received 2″. However, historically March is the snowiest month in Colorado and today is only the 2nd!

Well, that came as a surprise

All of the California storms have been hitting Colorado’s high country leaving the front range dry & windy. Yesterday was really not supposed to be any exception. All of the weather reports called for a slight chance of flurries with little or no accumulation. So, when I left for work I only took with me a down vest, scarf and lightweight gloves. When I left the office at 5:00pm there was 1″ of snow on my car and it was still coming down. When I finished brushing off the windows, they were already covered again. Glad to see my efforts paid off. Surprisingly, the drive home was not that bad. It was slower than normal of course, but I didn’t hit any ice until I was very near our house. However, when I got home and let the dog out she decided she needed to chase a rabbit down the street and I had to “run” after her without killing myself by slipping on ice. Needless to say, she got put in the box for a good duration last night. Also, since the roads were getting worse and the snow was still coming down we chose not to drive the extra 20+ miles to our bible study in Arvada. By the time we went to bed there was 3″ of fresh snow on the ground. I didn’t mind the snow of course, but it did come as a surprise. Also, don’t forget you can check our snow accumulation totals for this season!

New Page

The weather page is back up and running!  ::insert cheers here::  I have also added a new page off of Weather that has a link to many local webcams.  If you’re like my dad you can keep a computer up with just the cameras so you are always on top of Colorado’s weather.  😀
